As a multicultural child with a Filipino mother and an African American NCO Air-force retired Master Sergeant father, I treasured my given name “Kenny.” I had no idea that life had a nice surprise in store for me during my adolescence. As my diverse group of friends celebrated our shared ancestry, a happy coincidence changed my name from “Kenny” to the warm and meaningful nickname “Pino.” This blog looks into the fascinating story of how this moniker evolved, bringing my brother Phillip and me even closer together as we became fondly known as Phillip and Pino, evocative of our harmonic blend of identities.
